We are looking for a Junior Backend Developer to join our growing Motorist Vietnam team.You will work on building, optimizing, and scaling Motorist’s backend systems using Ruby on Rails, MySQL, and various supporting services. You’ll collaborate with other teams to deliver robust APIs and internal tools that power one of Singapore’s leading automotive platforms.1. EducationBachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related field.Final-year students or fresh graduates with solid backend project portfolios are welcome to apply.2. ResponsibilitiesDesign, implement, and maintain scalable backend features and APIs using Ruby on Rails and MySQL.Build reusable and testable code for high-traffic systems and data processing.Integrate third-party services, APIs, and internal microservices to support business and marketing features.Implement background jobs using Sidekiq and caching via Redis.Work with AWS, Capistrano, and Puma for deployment and scalability.Collaborate with front-end, mobile, and QA teams to ensure end-toend feature delivery. Debug, refactor, and continuously improve code performance, maintainability, and security.Participate in sprint discussions, code reviews, and team improvement sessions

Technical ExperiencesMust have:Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related field.Experience in backend development using Ruby on Rails, or willingness to transition from another backend language (PHP / Node.js).Good understanding of MySQL database design and query optimization.Familiar with background jobs (Sidekiq), caching (Redis), and deployment (Capistrano, AWS).Knowledge of RESTful APIs, HTTP/HTTPS protocols, and JSON structures.Basic knowledge of Linux development environments and version control (Git).Strong attention to detail and analytical problem-solving mindset.Nice to have:Familiarity with gems such as Devise, Pundit, Rpush, CarrierWave +Fog-AWS, or Stripe.Experience with RSpec or other testing frameworks.Exposure to CI/CD automation tools (Capistrano, GitHub Actions).Understanding of Geo-location or mapping services (Geocoder, RGeo, Fast-Polylines).Understanding of Microservices and event-driven systems (using Kafka / Karafka / Waterdrop).Appreciation for clean, maintainable, and well-structured code.Collaborative mindset and a reliable team player who takes ownership of their work.Language SkillsAble to communicate and collaborate in English (written and spoken).Willing to learn and improve communication when working withSingapore HQ and other markets.Flexible PointsWe welcome engineers who:Are passionate about backend development and eager to grow in a professional environment.May not have long professional experience but show strong logic, problem-solving, and willingness to learn.Want to master Ruby on Rails, MySQL, and scalable API development.Are not yet fluent in English but are motivated to practice and improve daily.Enjoy solving complex backend challenges and improving performance at scale.Notice:Candidates are required to provide reference information after passing the interview round.At Motorist, we believe in work hard, play hard.
