Position: Learning Support 1:1 Teaching AssistantDivision: Elementary SchoolReports to: Learning Support Lead; Divisional Principal or DeputyWorking Hours: 8:00 – 16:00, Monday through FridayContract Type: One-year service agreement, with possibility of extensionHOW TO APPLY: Interested candidates are invited to submit their applications through the school recruitment portal at: https://www.applitrack.com/unishanoi/onlineapp/_application.aspx?posJobCodes=490&posFirstChoice=2020%20-%202021%20SCHOOL%20YEAR%20OPENINGS&posSpecialty=Please note that only applications submitted via this portal will be considered.Position Overview:A Learning Support 1:1 Teaching Assistant assists Learning Support (LS) Teachers in implementing and supporting learning experiences that advance the intellectual, emotional, and social development of students within a safe and healthy learning environment.The role of the 1:1 Learning Support Teaching Assistant is to support an individually assigned student in accessing the curriculum and developing identified social skills following the student’s Individual Learning Plan (ILP), Behavior Intervention Plan (BIP), or other support plans as directed by the Learning Support teacher/case manager.The 1:1 TA is responsible for a student during the course of one academic year. Should that student leave or no longer require services, the 1:1 may serve as a general LS TA and perform the duties as outlined in the job description for a LS TA.Responsibilities:● Support:- Implement appropriate strategies to support the student’s learning in class/lessons according to needs as agreed with the family, Student Support Team (SST) and class teacher. These may include implementing accommodations (e.g. extra time, visual supports, assistive technology) and assistive technology to support the student’s learning and independence across various settings.- Provide targeted instruction aligned with the student’s learning profile and track progress through observational data collection.- Promote student independence by gradually reducing support when appropriate.- Communicate regularly with the case manager, teachers collaborating with specialists as needed.- Implement behavior intervention, de-escalation, and emotional regulation strategies per the BIP and school policies.- Ensure student safety and respond appropriately to medical or emotional crises.- Take initiative in supporting student needs and in carrying out tasks or seeking information.- Other tasks as assigned by the School● Interpersonal Interactions- Foster interactions with and between students that are both caring and respectful in an environment of high learning expectations.- Establish a climate in which teachers and students are engaged with each other and students feel secure to take risks with their learning.- Develop respectful relationships among children and adults within a climate of trust that promotes peaceful solutions to problems.- Encourage respect for fundamental freedoms and equality for all without distinction.- Support multilingual learners with language development through modeling and scaffolding strategies.● Professional development- Seek feedback, reflect and act upon information received to develop professionally.- Seek out training when possible to improve pedagogical skills related to learning support and the student’s particular needs.- Attend UNIS planned training activities.- Learn from others and share knowledge with others.- Engage in professional learning related to cultural responsiveness and inclusive practices.
