JOB PURPOSEThe Assistant Chartering Manager supports the Chartering Manager in securing cargo and managing vessel charters to maximize profitability and operational efficiency. This role involves market analysis, negotiation, and coordination with internal and external stakeholders to ensure successful execution of chartering agreements.CORE RESPONSIBILITIESMarket Analysis and Business Development• Monitor and analyze freight market trends, vessel availability, and cargo demand.• Identify and develop new business opportunities to expand the company’s chartering portfolio.• Build and maintain strong relationships with brokers, shipowners, and cargo clients.Chartering Operations• Assist in negotiating and finalizing charter party agreements, ensuring favorable terms for the company.• Ensure all contractual obligations are met and documented accurately.Risk Management and Compliance• Evaluate risks associated with chartering deals and recommend mitigation strategies.• Ensure compliance with company policies, chartering procedures, and international regulations.• Maintain accurate records of chartering agreements and related documentation.Stakeholder Coordination• Liaise with shipowners, brokers, cargo operators, and internal departments to ensure smooth execution of charters.Reporting and Continuous Improvement• Prepare regular reports on chartering activities, market conditions, and performance metrics.• Provide insights and recommendations to improve chartering processes and profitability.REQUIRED SKILLSNegotiation and Communication:• Excellent negotiation skills to secure competitive rates and favorable terms.• Strong verbal and written communication skills for dealing with brokers, clients, and internal teams.Analytical and Problem-Solving Skills:• Ability to analyze market trends and make data-driven decisions.• Proficient in identifying and resolving operational and contractual issues.Relationship Management:• Skilled in building and maintaining relationships with clients, brokers, and shipowners.• High level of professionalism and diplomacy when resolving disputes.Organizational and Multitasking Abilities:• Strong ability to manage multiple charters and tasks simultaneously under tight deadlines.• Attention to detail in documentation and operational follow-ups.Technology Proficiency:• Advanced skills in Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint for reporting and analysis.
