Job OverviewThe Learning Assistant for Dwight School Hanoi’s Lower School supports individual Grades 1-5 students, teachers, and/or classes, under the supervision of and partnership with homeroom teachers or another supervisor. The Learning Assistant should possess a professional knowledge base encompassing various aspects, including a general understanding of the IB Primary Years Programme and effective classroom practices to encourage second language acquisition. The Learning Assistant will observe, participate, and actively take initiative to become a part of the community and help grow the program and will be a key contact for language support in home language. The Learning Assistant will be capable of fulfilling assigned duties independently with minimal supervision.Key ResponsibilitiesManaging Classroom Equipment:• Maintain a clean, orderly, and safe working environment to ensure that equipment, resources, and materials are set out on time as per instructions received and used safely.• Collect, check, organize, and return equipment to stores at the end of lessons.• Take care of equipment and materials, including basic cleaning, maintenance, and repair.Supporting Students & Teachers:• Assist the class teacher with learning activities while securing the health and safety of the students.• Lead small group activities and lessons as guided by the homeroom teacher.• Support curricular and student assessment.• Meet weekly with the homeroom teacher and PYP Coordinator to set goals, debrief, and discuss effective practices.• Undertake supervising duties such as recess and arrival/dismissal.• Support virtual instruction, as needed.• Utilize the home language to support the homeroom teacher in communication with parents, such as parent conferences, report writing, and Back-to-School Night.• Be aware of and support differences to provide all students with equal access to opportunities to learn and develop.• Create a safe, secure, and stimulating environment by complying with policies and procedures relating to child protection health, safety, security, and confidentiality and reporting all concerns to safeguard students’ wellbeing.Embodying the Dwight School Hanoi Mission and Values:• Model patience, flexibility, kindness, responsibility, open mindedness, and a respect for others.• Value and make productive use of the diversity of cultures and perspectives that exist in the school community.• Demonstrate at all times the IB Learner Profile attributes and dispositions.• Undertake training and other learning activities and attend relevant meetings as required to continue professional development.• Embrace the school’s Mission and Guiding Statements and put student learning first.Implementing the other MOET related tasks:• Assist with teaching/administrative tasks and documentation related to MOET/DOET curriculum compliance, reporting, and regulatory requirements.N.B.: These key responsibilities are not intended to be all-inclusive.
